~ How to make a superfab baby mobile from a simple card! ~
Yes, it is that time of my life that a lot of people around me seem to be having a baby or two. And though I am very happy for my friends (yeah!), I simple lack the time to pay everybody a visit and check the newborn on a short notice. My solution: Send a really nice baby card and pay the newborn a visit later, when both parents and baby are more relaxed and used to the new family situation. And if you send a card, why not send something special, like this baby card with a DIY nursery mobile included!
A paper mobile in the mail
This special card is secretly a little book! On it’s pages you’ll find the shapes of fluffy clouds and happy birds, ánd a simple tutorial to transform all this to a paper mobile! Here is what you need:
- DIY mobile baby card
- Scissors, craft knife and cutting craft mat
- Thread and needle
- One or two sticks
How to make a nursery mobile
First make yourself a cup of tea and put your cell phone some where else: This is craft time and you are not in a hurry! Cut out all the elements with your scissors. Use your craft knife and cutting mat to carefully cut all the dotted lines on the birds and clouds. Make little holes in the crosses with the needle.
Connect the clouds as shown on the picture. Fold all the wings and connect them to the birds.
Putting it together
When you have all the elements, decide how you would like your mobile to look. You can tie together two sticks perpendicularly, or use a single stick or an embroidery hoop. Combine all the elements the way you like them. For this mobile I use a single stick and start with the cloud in the middle. Use the thread and needle to attach the cloud and the first bird to the stick or hoop. Make a hole in the belly of this bird and attach a second bird. Continue with the other 4 birds and finish the mobile. Don’t forget to make a loop to hang the mobile from the ceiling.
Please note: this paper mobile is NOT baby proof, so make sure to hang it out of reach of those grabbing little baby hands. Would you like to make this mobile or send this card to congratulate brand new parents? You can buy the card here in my Dutch shop. My apologies to the non-Dutchies: The text is in Dutch only.
What about you? Would you rather send a card or pay a visit?
